Eagles edge Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Husson University held off a late Lyndon surge Saturday to record an 81-76 North Atlantic Conference victory at Stannard Gymnasium.

The Eagles (17-8, 14-4) led 49-37 at halftime, only to see the Hornets come roaring back to trail by one point in the final minute of play. Unfortunately a pair of Jason Gray (East Thetford, Vt.) jumpers in the final 60 second fell short of their mark, allowing Husson to escape with the win.

Marc Zaharchuk led a balanced Eagle attack with 14 points and seven rebounds and fellow senior Eric Modica had 14 points as well to along with eight rebounds. Corey wood had 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in the victory and Eric Cottonham tallied 12 points off the bench.

Gray had 23 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots in his final Lyndon home game and Devyn Baranauskas (Waterbury, Conn.) collected 18 points and two steals in the loss. David Johnson (Washington, D.C.) had 10 points, four assists and two steals for the Hornets (12-13, 11-7).

Lyndon returns to the court on Tuesday when it travels to Castleton, Vt. to face fourth-seed Castleton in the quarterfinal round of the NAC playoffs. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
