Box Score CASTINE, Maine -- Nicholas George's hat trick propelled Maine Maritime to a 6-2 win over Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference men's soccer match Sunday. The win, the third straight for Mariners, improved MMA to 4-1-1 in the NAC, and 6-4-1 overall, while the Hornets remained winless in conference play at 0-5-1, and 0-10-1 overall.
George received a pass from Jay Madison in the 13th minute to give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. More than 25 minutes passed until another score when Lueth Ajok Lueth (Burlington, Vt.) deposited a pass from Eric Nelson (Guildhall, Vt.) to even the game at 1-0 in the 33rd minute.
Jonathan Reeks gave the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute with an unassisted score. Madison and George hooked up again in the 60th minute to put Maine Maritime ahead 3-1.
Nelson's corner kick found the head of Ben Estes (Montpelier, Vt.) to keep the Hornets within one, 3-2, in the 67th minute.
Gabe Warren fired a corner kick that found the top of Bryan Soucy's head to give the Mariners a two goal lead, 4-2. George and Reeks, on assists from Henry Hersy and Warren, scored the final two goals of the games in the 73rd and 87th minutes.
Maine Maritime outshot Lyndon 20-7 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Jesse Perkins stopped two shots in goal to pick up the win for the Mariners, while Jason Marks (Newtown, Conn.) had four in the loss for the Hornets.
