Waterville, ME - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team traveled to Thomas College on Saturday afternoon for its first North Atlantic Conference matchup of the season. The Hornets battled throughout, but the host Terriers pulled away in the second half to post a 6-0 victory at Smith Field.
Thomas took control early, generating pressure and earning several corner kicks before Zayin Clugh put the Terriers on the scoreboard in the 13th minute, converting a feed from David Ivarsson.
Lyndon goalkeeper Cayden Cowley (Pahrump, NV) kept the Hornets within striking distance during the opening half, making several saves as Thomas continued to apply pressure. The Terriers eventually doubled their advantage in the 34th minute when Serafin Garcia scored off an assist from Chance Eve.
Thomas carried a 2-0 lead into halftime after outshooting the Hornets, 22-0, during the opening 45 minutes.
Lyndon came out more aggressively in the second half, and Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA) recorded the Hornets' first shot of the afternoon in the 52nd minute, but Thomas goalkeeper Jamie Fischer made the save.
The Terriers extended their lead in the 61st minute when Adio DeShield-Tankard converted a penalty kick. Gabriel Dominicci added another goal in the 72nd minute, and Jose Andrade scored twice during the final nine minutes to complete the scoring.
Cowley finished with 15 saves for the Hornets, matching a career-high, as Thomas finished with a 39-4 advantage in shots and a 14-2 edge in corner kicks.
The loss drops Lyndon to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1 in NAC play, while Thomas improves to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The Hornets will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 23, when they travel to Vermont State University Randolph for a 4:00 pm non-conference matchup.
