Buzzer-beater Lifts Johnson Over Lyndon

Box Score

JOHNSON, Vt. – Rob Key sank a 10-foot turnaround jumper as time expired to lift Johnson State to a 75-73 North Atlantic Conference basketball victory over Lyndon at Carter Gymnasium. The Hornets' Phil Warrick (Springfield, Mass.) drilled a three-pointer with :08.6 seconds left to play to tie the game at 73 before Key's heroics lifted the Badgers to the win.

After several lead changes during the first 20 minutes, the teams entered halftime with the score knotted at 35-35. Warrick led all scorers with 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting while fellow freshman Billy Boyd paced Johnson with 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting. The game with sway back-and-forth throughout the second 20 minutes until back-to-back three-point field goals from Ian Passino gave Johnson the 73-70 lead with :33 seconds left to play.

Lyndon would get four attempts at the game-tying shot as the Hornets chased down long rebound after long rebound until Warrick drilled the equalizer from the left wing and set the stage for Key. On the final play of the game, Johnson point guard Andy Bousono dribbled up the left side of the floor, found a flashing Key who drove the right side. He spun and rose up over Lyndon's Logan Calkins (Danville, Vt./Danville) and dropped in the jumper as the buzzer sounded.

Bousono finished with a game-high 23 points, six assists and three steals on 8-for-14 shooting, including a trio of three-point field goals. Boyd ended the game with 14 points and five rebounds, Passino hit three three-pointers en route to 13 points and junior Alen Turan had an outstanding showing scoring nine points, grabbing a team-high six rebounds, handing out six assists and collecting five steals.

Warrick matched Bousono's 23 points while Ben Sackett (Lyndonville, Vt.) canned 4-of-8 three-point field goals on his way to 14 points. D.J. Santos (Milton, Mass.) scored 10 for the Hornets in the loss.
