Paul Smith's NY - Freshman Adrian Placencia's (Lincoln, CA) goal in the 72nd minute pulled Vermont State University Lyndon even, allowing the Hornets to come away with a 1-1 draw in their season opener at Paul Smith's College on Tuesday evening. Paul Smith's moved to 1-1 on the season.
Paul Smith's controlled play throughout the first half, outshooting Lyndon, 16-1, in the opening stanza. The Hornet defense was able to hold up, however, and Lyndon goalkeeper Gavin Getz (Helotes, TX) came up with six stops. As a result, the two teams went into halftime scoreless.
The Bobcats got on the board in the 53rd minute when Hyler Isham knocked a rebound in front of the Lyndon goal past Getz. Lyndon would respond with Placencia's equalizer with less than 18 minute remaining when the freshman poked a pass from Winter Hill Barnes (Glover, VT) past Bobcat keeper Cazimir Couble. That would be how things ended.
Paul Smith's outshot Lyndon, 26-7, for the game. The Bobcats earned nine corner kicks to one for the Hornets. Getz finished with ten saves, while Couble made three stops.
Lyndon will open their home campaign on Saturday morning when they host Elms College. Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 10:00 am.
