Hornet softball drops two to nationally ranked Husson

Bangor, ME - The Vermotn State University Lyndon softball team was no match for nationally ranked Husson University in their North Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.  The Eagles, #20 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III rankings, defeated the Hornets, 19-0, in game one.  The Hornets were forced to forfeit game two after an injury prevented Lyndon from putting nine players in the field.  Husson improved to 19-3 on the season and 4-0 in the NAC, while Lyndon fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Game #1 - Husson 19, VTSU Lyndon 0

The Eagles broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning and seven more in the fourth.  Morgan Tainter had three hits including a home run and a double, driving in four runs and scoring twice.  Lilly Snow had two doubles, four RBIs, and three runs scored.  Morgan Curtis added three base hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Husson starter Anna Lang picked up the win, allowing no hits and striking out eight over three innings.  Braelynn Wilcox pitched two shutout innings in relief, allowing only a pair of singles to Lyndon's Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) and Megan Richardson (Essex Junction, VT).  Hornet starter Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH) went the distance and took the loss.

Game #2 - Husson 7, VTSU Lyndon 0 (Forfeit)

The game was called after three and a half innings withHusson leading, 20-0.  Since the game didn't reach the point of being official, statistics aren't counted and Husson is awarded a 7-0 victory.

Lyndon will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Vermont State University Johnson for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.  Game one will be a NAC contest, while game two will be a non-conference affair.
