Lyndonville, VT - Playing for the first time in 20 days, the Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team showed little signs of rust and picked up a 70–47 win over Elms College at George W. Stannard Gymnasium on Friday afternoon, improving the Hornets' overall record to 8–3. Elms fell to 3–9 on the season.
From the opening tip, Lyndon imposed its will on both ends of the floor. Senior guard Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) led the Hornets with a game-high 26 points, knocking down timely shots from deep that kept the Hornet offense humming. Her sharpshooting and command of the tempo set the tone early and often.
Balanced scoring helped Lyndon sustain its lead throughout the contest. Chloe Murphy (Manchester, NH) added nine points, while Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) and Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) each contributed seven points. Inside, Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) was a force on the glass with 13 rebounds, finishing with six points, and Keira Quintal (Sheffield, VT) provided energy and scoring with six points. Kaitlyn Frydenlund (Westminster, CO) chipped in five points off the bench.
Elms College relied on Mary Turco, who battled throughout and scored a team-high 19 points in the losing effort. Guard Talia Uribe added seven points while Sanaii Diaz scored five points for the Blazers.
Lyndon will get back into North Atlantic Conference play on Monday when they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 5:00 pm tip-off.
