Hornet men's soccer rallies past VTSU Randolph for first win

Randolph Center, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team rallied with two second-half goals to defeat Vermont State University Randolph, 2-1, for their first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon.  The Hornets moved to 1-6 on the season, while the Knights fell to 1-7.

Neither team was able to break through in the opening half.  Randolph had somewhat the better of the play, outshooting Lyndon, 6-2, in the stanza.  Hornet goalkeeper Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT) made three saves to keep the Hornets even.

Randolph broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute.  Henry Gibson took the ball through multiple Lyndon defenders and fired a left foot shot past Pierce and into the lower right corner of the net.

Lyndon would get the equalizer just over three minutes later.  Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA) took advantage of a Knight giveaway and fired a shot past Randolph goalkeeper Gabe Sokolnicki and into the top left corner of the net.

With just over five minutes to go Cardenas broke free with a chance to give the Hornets the lead.  Sokolicki made a diving stop, but Perceval Hess (Arlington, VT) put away the rebound to give the Hornets the lead and the victory.

Lyndon's win was the program's first on the road in nearly eight years.  The last Hornet road triumph was a 2-1 victory over Southern Vermont College On October 3, 2017.
