Lyndonville, VT - Visiting Vermont State University Johnson scorec three times in the final 13 minutes to finally put away Vermont State University Lyndon, 5-1, on Sunday at Varsity Field. The Hornets fell to 0-6-0 overall and 0-2-0 in North Atlantic Conference play, while Johnson improved to 3-1-0 and 1-0-0.
Johnson struck early, as Josiah Phillips put them on the board just 22 seconds in off an assist from Logan Ingalls. Oakley Francis made it 2-0 in the 24th minute, again assisted by Ingalls. Lyndon got on the board in the 29th minute when Johnson was called for a foul in the box and Perceval Hess (Arlington, VT) converted the resulting penalty kick.
The Hornets hung in for much of the second half but were unable to generate the equalizer. Johnson finally opened ome breathing room when Ingalls added a goal in the 78th minute. Jeabets Kasongo extended the margin in the 86th minute with help from Francis. Francis added another goal in the final minute.
Statistically, Johnson dominated nearly every category. The guests outshot Lyndon 34-1 and had 13 corner kicks to Lyndon's one. Lyndon's keeper, Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT), stopped 12 Badger shots. Johnson's goalkeeper, Lucas Gehring, picked up the win.
Lyndon returns to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Vermont State University Randolph for a 4:00 pm matchup.
