Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Shorthanded Hornet women fall to Paul Smith's in season opener

Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's soccer team opened its 2025 season on Monday afternoon at Varsity Field, but visiting Paul Smith's College came away with an 8-0 victory in the non-conference matchup.

The Bobcats struck quickly and never looked back.  Mattison Swan put the visitors on the board in the sixth minute before assisting on a goal by Micaela Diller five minutes later.  Sydney Lemay and Loia De Toni also scored in the first half, sending Paul Smith's into halftime with a 4-0 lead.

Swan continued to lead the way after intermission, scoring again early in the second half and adding a pair of assists before the final whistle.  Lilyanna Barnes scored twice after the break, and Palin Hample added the final goal in the 84th minute to close out the scoring.

Despite the result, the Hornets received strong efforts in goal from Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, VT), who recorded 11 saves in just under 59 minutes of play, and Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL), who added seven saves in relief.  Together, the tandem turned aside 18 shots against a relentless PSC attack, as the Bobcats outshot the Hornets, 50-2.

Offensively, Malia Wilson (East Hartford, CT)  had Lyndon,s only shot on goal, while Hannah Badertscher (Irasburg, VT) registered the only other Hornet shot.

With the setback, the Hornets fall to 0-1 on the season, while Paul Smith's improves to 1-1.  Lyndon is off for two weeks, until September 16th, when they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington to open North Atlantic Conference play.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
