Farmington, ME - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's soccer team dropped their North Atlantic Conference opener to the University of Maine at Farmington, 10-0, on Tuesday afternoon, falling to 0-2 for the season. UMF improved to 3-2 with the win.
The Beavers came out firing from the start, scoring all ten goals in the first half. Natalie Tracy got tthings going in the 8th minute with her sixth goal of the season. Rita Benoit, assisted by Kyri Meak, followed less than six minutes later, and Meak herself added her third of the season off a pass from Miah Coffin. Coffin also scored, assisted by Kiley Meader, before Grace Dwyer found the net with help from Benoit. Benoit struck again just over a minute later, assisted by Meader. Tracy added another goal to her tally, then Benoit notched goal number five on an assist from Makenzie Rushlow. Before the half ended, Peyton Gonya and Makenzie Rushlow joined the scoring, giving UMF a 10-0 lead at intermission.
Lyndon couldn't get anything going in the second half, as UMF played the possession game and neither team was able to get off a shot.
Statistically, the Beavers controlled nearly every facet. The home team notched 25 shots (18 on goal), while Lyndon failed to register a single shot. Lyndon keeper Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY), was under constant pressure, registering eight saves.
The Hornets return home on Sunday afternoon when then they host Vermont State University Johnson in another NAC contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
