Chicopee, MA - Elms College scored five goals in an eight minute stretch early in the first half of Saturday's men's college soccer game against Vermont State University Lyndon. The Blazers cruised from there, picking up an 8-0 victory over the Hornets to improve to 2-0 on the season. The game was Lyndon's season opener.
Ramaul Morgan Jr. gor Elms on the board in the tenth minute when he fired a shot past Hornet goalkeeper Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT). Three quick goals, two from Dru Fairthorne and one from Jacobo Molina Ferrer, soon followed. When Leonardo De Moura's header off of a corner kick found the net in the 18th minute, Elms had a commanding five-goal advantage.
Elms added second half goals from De Moura, Ibrahim Ayouba, and Jahmai Dixon to account for the final margin.
The Blazers outshot the Hornets, 22-2, with Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA) mustering Lyndon's only shot on goal in the 32nd minute. Jack Bousquet went the distance in goal for the Blazers to record the clean sheet. Pierce and Joe Buchanan (McCordsville, IN) split duty in the Lyndon goal. Pierce stopped three of eight shts that he faced, while Buchanan made one save.
Lyndon will open their home campaign with a Monday afternoon contest against Paul Smith's College. Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
