Hornet softball can't cool down SUNY Delhi

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Oneonta, NY - The State University of New York at Delhi plated 26 total runs in the process of sweeping Saturday's North Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader against Vermont State University Lyndon.  Delhi improved to 11-18 on the season and evened their conference mark at 5-5.  Lyndon fell to 6-20 overall and 3-7 in the NAC.

Game 1 - SUNY Delhi 15, VTSU Lyndon 7

Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) got Lyndon off to a fast start with a two-run home run to ignite a four-run first inning.  However Delhi responded by plating ten runs in the bottom half of the first and never looked back.

Stephanie Huckabee was the hitting star for the Broncos.  She notched a pair of doubles, driving in three runs and scoring twice.  Sidney Cooper had a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored and Carolina Watson added a pair of hits.

Knapp finished with a homer and a double with three runs batted in.  Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA) had a single and a double and drove in a pair, while Ann Watkins (Los Angeles, CA) and Shyanne Glencross (Tilton, NH) both chipped in with a single and a double.

Danielle Seymour went the distance in the circle to pick up the win.  She allowed five earned runs and ten hits over five innings.  Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) started for the Hornets and took the loss.

Game 2 - SUNY Delhi 11, VTSU Lyndon 5

The Hornets again jumped in front early when they manufactured a pari of runs without a base hit.  However, Delhi again answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  The Broncos extended their advantage with two runs in each of the second and third innings.

Lyndon narrowed the deficit to 7-5 with three in the top of the fifth inning, with Gannon's two-run double the big blow.  Delhi again responded, plating foru runs in the bottom of the frame to lead 11-5.  That would prove to be all the scoring, as both teams were blanked over the final three innings.

Cooper had three hits and a sacrifice fly to pace the Tigers.  Hannah Caughey also had a big game with a double and a triple, three runs batted in, and three runs scored.  Watson doubled and drove in a pair.

Other than Gannon's double, the Hornets were only able to generate six singles, one each from Watkins, Blake Southworth (Bethel, VT), Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH), Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH), Glencross, and Emily Anderson.

Dickel pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of one-hit relief to pick up the win in the circle.  Anderson again started and took the loss.

The Hornets close out the regular season with a doubleheader against the State University of New York at Cobleskill on Sunday afternoon.  Those games were rained out last Saturday in Lyndonville, and will now be played at Cobleskill.  First pitch is tentatively scheduled for noon.
