Vero Beach, FL - Norwich University swept Saturday's baseball doubleheader against Vermont State University Lyndon, takign the opener, 6-, then grabbing the nightcap in extra innings, 10-4. The games were the season openers for the Cadets, while the Hornets fell to 1-3.
Game 1 - Norwich 6, VTSU Lyndon 1
Norwich plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie. John O'Connor had three hits and two runs batted in for the Cadets. Jakob Hayes had a single and a double. Ryan Miller allowed only two hits over six shutout innings to pick up the win.
Matt Gonyeau's (St. Albans, VT) first inning triple and Will Perkins' (Holtwood, PA) second inning single were the only Lyndon hits. Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA) scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning. Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT) started and took the loss.
