Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team defeated the Vermont State University Johnson Badgers on Senior Night by the score of 64-40. The Hornets improved their overall record to 8-12 and 5-5 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Badgers overall record falls to 1-20 and their conference record is now 1-10.
The Hornets took control of the game from the get go, and didn't give the Badgers any chance to make a comeback. The Hornets scored 22 points in the paint. The bench was also very productive in this game, scoring 19 points. Johnson had a tough time taking care of the basketball, which led them to make 23 turnovers. They also had a tough time shooting the ball, shooting 21.1% from the field goal and 23.5% from three-point line.
The leading scorer for the Hornets was senior guard Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) with 26 points. She was followed by senior guard Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT), who almost had a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) almost had a double-double herself, scoring nine points with nine rebounds.
The leading scorer for the Badgers was Sasha Khomutetsky who scored 12 points. She was followed by Kristie Zator who was one point shy of double-double. She ended up with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Before tip-off of Saturday's game, the Hornets honored their seniors for their contributions and sacrifices throughout their years with team. Smith, Disorda, Hannah Gordon (Concord, VT), Chloe McIntire (Bradford, VT), and Christina McKivergan (Essex Junction, VT) were joined on the court by family and friends, and presented with tokens of appreciation for their contributions to Hornet women's basketball.
Lyndon will go on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Minuteman High School in Lexington, MA for another NAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
