Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Johnson closed the first half of Saturday's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game at Vermont State University Lyndon on a 14-4 run. The Badgers held off the Hornets in the second half and came away with an 82-60 victory to improve to 7-16 on the season and 4-7 in the NAC. Lyndon fell to 7-15 overall and 3-7 in conference. It was Johnson's first win over Lyndon in three outings this season.
Jason Baker led the Badgers with a game high 26 points and 11 rebounds. Raymond Baka finished with 13 points and eight boards and Lukas Sward scored ten points and dished out six assists. Mohammed Semega added eight points and pulled down 14 rebounds.
Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) paced Lyndon with 16 points and five assists. Deshawn Ford (Fort Walton Beach, FL) was the only other Lyndon player in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) grabbed a team best 14 rebounds.
Prior to Saturday's game Lyndon recognized its seniors: Gonyea, Brett Roy (Newport, VT), and graduate student Dakota Holbrook (Jordan, NY) along with senior student assistant James Salvas (Morrisville, VT), who dressed for the game and saw his first intercollegiate action. Each was joined on the court by family members and friends, and was thanked for their contributions to Lyndon basketball.
The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Lesley University for another NAC matchup. tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Minuteman High School in Lexington, MA.
