Lexington, MA - Vermont State University Lyndon rallied from a 26-point deficit to take a one point lead with just over ten minutes remaining in Tuesday night's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game at Lesley University. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they were unable to close out the Lynx, as Lesley escaped with an 88-80 victory. Lesley closed the regular season with a record of 5-19 and a 3-10 mark in conference. Lyndon fell to 7-16 overall and 3-8 in the NAC.
Malachi Howard paced Lesley with 20 points and 14 rebounds. CJ Leonard also recorded a double double with 12 points and ten rebounds. Hezekiah Brown and Christian Castro also reached double figures with 17 and ten points respectively.
Three freshmen led the way for Lyndon. Deshawn Ford (Fort Walton Beach, FL) had a big game with 23 points on 10/15 shooting and 17 rebounds. Tyler Bergmans (Ferrisburgh, VT) and Victor Kukta Reyes (Fitchburg, MA) added 15 points apiece. Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) socred eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Hornets will close out the regular season this weekend with a pair of NAC games in New York. On Friday they will tip-off at the State University of New York at Delhi at 7:30 pm. Then on Saturday they have a 3:00 pm start at the State University of New York at Cobleskill. Lyndon needs to win at least one of the two games to secure a NAC playoff berth.
