Box Score 2 North Myrtle Beach, SC - The Vermont State University Lyndon softball team continued their stay at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic on Thursday. In the morning opener, the Hornets dropped a 10-5 decision to Vermont State University Johnson. Then in the afternoon, they fell to Massachusetts Maritime Academy by the same 10-5 score. For Johnson, it was their first win in seven games. Mass Maritime improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Hornets fell to 0-4.
Game 1 - VTSU Johnson 10, VTSU Lyndon 5
The Badgers used a four-run fifth inning to break open a close game nd go on to the win. Gabi Lafreniere was 4/5 at the plate for Johnson. She scored twice and drove in a run. Kristie Zator and Audrey Tembreull had two hits apiece and Tembreull scored three times. Hannah Corvino got the win in the circle for the Badgers.
Seairra Anderson (Somersworth, NH), Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA), and Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) each had two hits for the Hornets. Gannon scored twice and Ann Watkins (Los Angeles, CA) drove in a pair of runs. Riley McNamara (Manchester, NH) took the loss for the Hornets.
Game 2 - Mass Maritime 10, VTSU Lyndon 5
Mass Maritime plated seven runs in the first two innings and punded out 16 hits in cruising to the victory. Lead off batter Reagan Kerecz was 4/5 with a pair of runs scored to ignite the Buccaneers. Natalie Gale was 4/4 with three runs batted in. Sarah Holler had three hits while Lillian Ross and Kelsey Booker each chipped in with two hits and two runs scored. Ashleigh Catlett went the distance in the circle, picking up the win while allowing two earned runs and seven hits.
Gannon had two hits with a run scored and a run batted in for Lyndon. Claudia Knapp (Howell, NJ) had a base hit and two RBIs and Watkins added a base hit and two runs scored. Emily Anderson (Levittown, NY) started in the circle and took the loss.
The Hornets are off on Friday. Lyndon will return to the diamond on Saturday with a 12:00 noon game against Mary Baldwin University. That will be followed by an exhibition game against Monroe Community College at 2:00 pm.
