Miami Gardens, FL - Saint Vincent College broke open a close game by outscoring Vermont State University Lyndon 34-13 over the final nine minutes of the first half. The Bearcats then kept the Hornets at bay after halftime and cruised to a 92-67 victory in the Cruzin Classic at Saint Thomas University. Saint Vincent improved to 6-3 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 4-5.
Down 25 at halftime, Lyndon staged a rally in the early minutes of the second half. A Xavier Rainwater (Frisco, TX) basket at the 15:30 mark cut the Saint Vincent lead to 18 at 58-40. That would be as close as the Hornets would get, as Saint Francis steadied things and came away with the win.
Saint Vincent placed six players in double figures. Jevontae Jones led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds. Maxwell Gordon and Terek Crosby scored 14 and 13 points respectively.
Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) led all scorers with 28 points. Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) scored ten points and grabbed a game high nine rebounds. Rainwater also tallied ten points and grabbed six boards.
The Hornets conclude their play in the Cruzin Classic on Sunday afternoon when they take on Tufts University, the #21 team in the country. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
