Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hornet women cruise past VTSU Johnson

Johnson, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team picked up a  76–66 victory over Vermont State University Johnson at Carter Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  Lyndon improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in North Atlantic Conference play with a balanced offensive performance and timely defensive stops, while Johnson fell to 3-8 and 2-3 in league action.

Lyndon jumped out to a 34-15 halftime lead and kept the Badgers at bay throughout the second half.   The Hornets strong inside play from Kiara Mack (Milton, VT), who led all scorers with 22 points and contributed 6 rebounds, using her physical presence to anchor the Hornets' offense.  Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) bolstered the effort with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, helping Lyndon control the glass and extend possessions.  Playmaker Nei'Shae Clegg (Coolidge, AZ) added 9 points while facilitating on both ends, and Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) added 8 points and provided energy with hustle plays that kept the Hornets in front throughout the contest.  Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) chipped in 11 points, giving Lyndon additional scoring punch, while Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) and Hawa Mubarak (Burlington, VT) each made key contributions as well.

Despite building a substantial lead through three quarters, Lyndon faced a determined Johnson comeback in the final stanza.  The Badgers got as close as eight points in the final minute, but could get no closer.  The hosts were paced by Jacquelyn Oberg, who scored 17 points, and Abbie Hernandez, who added 16 points, combining for much of Johnson's offensive production and closing the gap down the stretch.  Jaylah Jones also made an impact with 15 points.

Lyndon will return to action following the Christmas and New Year's holidays.  They get back on the hardwood on January 3rd, when they host Elms College in a 3:00 pm non-conference matchup.
