Johnson, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon (1-1) shook off Saturday's disappointment and answered with an 89-77 win over Vermont State University Johnson (0-2) in Sunday's consolation game of the Vermont State University Tip-Off Classic.
Lyndon controlled much of the afternoon.  The Hornets pushed the pace early and repeatedly turned live-ball stops into transition chances.  An 11-0 run late in the first half, jumpers from Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) and Max Kocha (Palm Beach Gardens, FL), and four points from Brayden Pepin (Island Pond, VT) sent Lyndon into the locker room up 46-38.
Johnson briefly made things tense in the second half, using a 7-0 burst to trim an 18-point deficit to single digits with just under eight minutes remaining. Lyndon steadied itself again. Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) connected on a pair of free throws to push the lead back to 11, and Johnson never got back within single digits the rest of the way.
McIntyre finished with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists.  Doyle added 12 points and a game-high 14 boards, and Kocha totaled 12 points, ten rebounds, seven assists and three steals.  Guards Christian Hathorn (Wilder, VT) and Isaiah Allison (Troy, NY) also reached double figures with ten points apiece.
The Badgers were led by Jaylen Brown with 19 points, while Tre Bradley added 15 points.
Lyndon shot 50.8 percent from the floor while converting 20 fast-break points and 21 points off turnovers — two areas that tilted the game their way.
VTSU Lyndon returns to action next Saturday, visiting the State University of New York at Canton at 2:00 pm.
