Canton, NY - The State University of New York at Canton took control with a 17-4 run late in the first half of Saturday's men's college basketball game with Vermont State University Lyndon, and went on to collect a 106-77 victory over the Hornets.
Sophomore guard Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) led the Hornets with 15 points while also pulling down seven rebounds. Graduate guard Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) added 14 points on 4-8 shooting and went 5-6 at the free-throw line.
Lyndon shot 41.0 percent overall (25-61), hit 5-13 (38.5 percent) from three and made 22-36 (61.1 percent) at the line. Canton converted 30-69 (43.5 percent) from the field, 7-22 (31.8 percent) from deep and 39-47 (83.0 percent) from the free-throw line.
For Canton, top performers included Bryon Streb with 18 points and nine rebounds, and Jahdeuir Reese with 12 points and seven rebounds.
With the win, Canton improved to 1-3 on the season. Lyndon fell to 1-2. The Hornets travel to Elms College for a 7:00 pm tip-off on Wednesday evening.
