Randolph, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon rolled to an 80–41 win over Bryant & Stratton College–Albany on Saturday afternoon in the Vermont State University Tip-Off Classic at VTSU Randolph.
Lyndon took control in the second quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 19–6 to build a 38–25 halftime advantage, then pulled away after the break behind balanced scoring and a defense that held Bryant & Stratton to 31.7 percent shooting and just one made 3-pointer in 14 attempts.
Junior guard Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) led the Hornets with 17 points and eight rebounds, knocking down three 3-pointers. Sophomore wing Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) added 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight boards, while senior forward Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Freshman point guard Taliyah Carter (Ozark, AL) provided energy and pace on the perimeter, and senior sharpshooter Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) helped space the floor and stretch the Bobcats' defense.
Bryant & Stratton fell to 0-1 with the loss. Keyanna Drew and Ka'Niya Gonzalez each scored 10 points to pace the Bobcats, and Me-Lin Caliste added nine points and eight rebounds.
The Hornets improved to 2–0 with the win. Lyndon shot 41.8 percent from the field and got 32 bench points. The Hornets also dominated the paint, 38–22, and forced 22 turnovers in a performance that set the tone defensively from quarter to quarter.
The Hornets return to action next Saturday when they host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in their home opener at 2:00 pm.
