Lyndo0nville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon surged past Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday, rolling to a 105–44 non-conference women's basketball win in George W. Stannard Gymnasium to improve to 3-0 on the season. The game was the season opener for MCLA, which was playing it's first game since the 2023-24 season.
The Hornets led 20–14 after the opening quarter, then tightened their grip with a 24–9 second period to take a 44–23 advantage into halftime. Lyndon broke the game open in the third, outscoring the Trailblazers 37–9, and closed strong with a 24–12 fourth quarter. Lyndon's 105 points scored set a new standard for most points in a game since the Hornets rejoined the NCAA in 2008, breaking the old mark of 104, set against Green Mountain College on November 28, 2017.
Senior forward Kiara Mack (Milton, VT) delivered 14 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. Sophomore guard Skylar Begay (Tucson, AZ) paced the Hornets with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting, highlighted by a 5-for-7 performance from behind the arc. Junior guard Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) added 17 points and six assists in an efficient 17 minutes.
Lyndon shot 42.9 percent from the field, buried 14 three-pointers, and controlled the boards 58–25. The Hornets forced MCLA into repeated turnovers, converting them into 46 points, and posted 42 points from their reserves.
MCLA received strong efforts from Hailey Peabody, who scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Abigail Scialabba, who added 15 points and six boards while playing all but two minutes.
The Hornets return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Plymouth State University for another non-conference tilt. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
