An early own goal put the Vermont State University Lyndon Men's Soccer team down early against Vermont State University Randolph. The Randolph Knights capitalized, pushing all the way to a 7-1 victory over the Lyndon Hornets.
The Hornets (1-9) early mistake saw an errant pass back get past the goal keeper and into the back of the net. The Knights (3-8) took hold of the momentum quickly, scoring just 3 minutes later when a ball bounced into the Hornet's box, and Calvin Cacciamani put in a goal after a touch pass from Colby Reagan. The scoring halted for a bit before a goal by Caiden Stemple and a pair of goals by Henry Gibson rounded out the half.
The Hornets continued to struggle in the second half, letting in two more goals before Ethan Cardenas (Tracy, CA) was fouled in the box on a scoring opportunity. The Knight's goalie Gabe Sokolnicki was awarded a Red Card, and Cardenas put the penalty kick away into the bottom left corner of the net. Despite a couple shot attempts each for Perceval Hess (Arlington, VT), Alessandro Anzalone (Eagle, ID), and Ben Albert (Mashpee, MA), the Hornets were unable to find the back of the net again in the remainder of the game.
Caiden Stemple and Henry Gibson led the Knights with 2 goals each, and Will Jenkins assisted on two goals as well. The Hornets were out shot 16-10, with Randolph getting one more strike on goal (8-7 SOGS). The Lyndon keepers combined for 2 saves, while the Randolph keepers combined for 6 saves.
The Hornets will return to conference play this weekend when they play Maine Maritime on October 11th. Kick off will be at 2:30pm.
