LYNDONVILLE, Vt. — The Vermont State University Lyndon Hornets women's soccer team dropped a tough outing Saturday afternoon, falling 8-0 to North Atlantic Conference leading Lesley University Lynx (9-3-6, 7-0-2) on Varsity Field.
Lesley wasted little time pulling ahead, striking in the sixth minute when Marissa De La Rosa netted the opener. Two additional strikes before the 20-minute mark — from Charlotte Meixsell (15th minute) and Meriel Wordell (20th minute) — put Lyndon in a steep hole.
The Hornets (0-10, 0-9) were unable to generate sustained offense, firing just one shot on goal the entire match while conceding 37 attempts and nine corner kicks to their guests.
Goalie Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) recorded 17 saves in the loss.
Lesley extended its lead further in the closing minutes of the first half with goals from Madison Reed in the 31st minute and Milana Rosazza in the 38th minute, taking a commanding 5-0 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Wordell added her second of the day in the 79th minute, then Jenna Chlapowski scored in the 83rd minute with assist from Maddy Duskocy, and finally Gretel Davis struck in the 89th minute to round out the scoring.
Saturday was Senior Day for the women's soccer team. The Hornets' lone senior, defender Malia Wilson (East Hartford, CT) was joined on the field by family and teammates. She was recognized for her contributions to Hornet soccer and presented with tokens of appreciation from the program.
The Hornets will host Vermont State University Randolph in their final home game of the season on Sunday at noon. The game was originally scheduled for October 6th. After that, the Hornets will close out the season at the State University of New York at Canton on Wednesday.
