Hornet women unable to slow SUNY Delhi attack in NAC matchup

Delhi, NY - The State University of New York at  Delhi scored early and often on Sunday afternoon, rolling to a 14-0 victory over Vermont State University Lyndon in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer play.

The Broncos opened the scoring just eight minutes in when Lauryn Schmid converted a pass from Riley Schmidt.  Shaniyah Myers doubled the lead four minutes later with an assist from Delaney Maison.  Delhi continued to press, adding two more goals in the 16th minute from Ava Battista and Maison to make it 4-0.  Melina Canales and Camelia Cruz scored midway through the first half before Kaitlyn Hines, Cayla Meroni, and Jordan DeNinno added goals late in the period.  The Broncos led 9-0 at halftime.

Ayla Vorisek extended the advantage early in the second half, and Myers, DeNinno, Schmidt, and Grainne Williams each added goals to close out the scoring.

Delhi outshot Lyndon 61-0, including 31 shots on goal.  Aracely Delgado-Juarez (LaBelle, FL) made five saves in the first half for the Hornets, while Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) stopped seven shots in the second half.

With the loss, the Hornets fell to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in the NAC, while the Broncos improved to 4-9-3 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play.

The Hornets will travel to Vermont State University Randolph on Wednesday for a non-conference contest that was rescheduled from September 25th.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
