The Vermont State University Lyndon Women's Soccer team was outnumbered and outmatched in a conference matchup against SUNY Cobleskill, falling 7-0 at the end of 90 minutes.
The Cobleskill Fighting Tigers missed their first few chances on net before Gabby Downey received a pass from Amanda Rice in the 16th minute and put the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal. EmmaJo Schmidtman would score and Jessica Carney would put two away to put Cobleskill up by four going into halftime.
The Hornets continued to battle in the second half, turning away several Fighting Tiger opportunities. Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) ended the game with 24 saves, facing 31 shots on goal and 48 shots total from the Fighting Tigers. 24 saves is the most saves from a Hornet women's goalkeeper in the last 2 years.
The Cobleskill Fighting Tigers picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in conference. The Hornets would end up falling to 0-8 overall and 0-7 in conference.
The Hornets have another chance to get a conference result tomorrow when they play SUNY Delhi. Kick off is at 12pm.
