Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

First half flurry carries Plymouth State past Hornet men's soccer

Plymuth, NH - Plymouth State University netted four first-half goals and held off Vermont State University Lyndon the rest of the way as the Hornets fell to the Panthers, 4–0, in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Arold Field.

The Panthers struck quickly midway through the first half, getting goals from Caleb Charnley in the 23rd minute and a pair from Michael Gilbert just three minutes apart.  Marco D'Addona added an unassisted tally in the 44th minute to make it 4–0 at halftime.

Despite the early barrage, the Hornets regrouped defensively after the break.  Goalkeeper Joe Buchanan (McCordsville, IN) came on at halftime and recorded three saves in 45 shutout minutes to help keep Plymouth State off the board in the second half.  Starter Parker Pierce (Woodstock, VT) made five first-half stops for Lyndon.

The Hornets managed two shots in the match, both coming from Perceval Hess (Arlington, VT), including one late attempt that just missed the mark in the closing minutes. Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA), Quinn Bressler (Norton, MA), and Everett Woinslow (White River Junction, VT) anchored the Lyndon defense, helping limit Plymouth to nine second-half shots after allowing 14 in the first half.

With the loss, VTSU Lyndon fell to 1–13, while Plymouth State improved to 4–8–1.  The Hornets return to North Atlantic Conference play this weekend when they travel to the State University of New York at Cobleskill for a 3:30 pm kickoff on Saturday afternoon.
