Hornet volleyball swept by UMaine-Presque Isle in NAC matchup

Presque Isle, ME - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's volleyball team was swept in three sets by the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday morning, falling 25-9, 25-10, 25-14.  With the loss, the Hornets drop to 2–15 overall and 0–2 in North Atlantic Conference play, while UMPI improves to 4–7 and 2–2 in conference action.

UMPI built early momentum in each set behind a balanced attack and consistent serving, handing Lyndon little room to breathe.  The home team compiled 24 kills against just 7 for the Hornets, while Lyndon struggled with 12 attack errors and a hitting percentage of –0.069.  UMPI posted a .112 hitting efficiency with 14 errors on 89 attempts.

For Lyndon, Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) led the offense with four kills and added one block, while Sydney Clunis (Windsor, ON) recorded three aces and nine digs.  Kazandra Gonzalez (Norwalk, CA) tallied two assists and five digs.

UMPI's offense was paced by Bailey Rosentreter (fi/ve kills) and Evelyn Elijah (four kills).  Mia Gutierrez and Angel Gutierrez each contributed four aces.  Brooke Gardner registered 11 assists to orchestrate the attack and also chipped in with two aces.

The Owls converted several Lyndon miscues into advantage, particularly in the opening set, where UMPI jumped out to a 17–3 lead and never let up.  The Hornets showed signs of fight in the third but could not sustain a rally.

The non-conference matchup between the Hornets and Owls which had been scheduled to follow the NAC matchup was canceled.

Lyndon returns home on Wednesday evening when they will host Fisher College in a non-conference doubleheader.  Wednesday will also be Dig Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night for the program.
