Castine, ME - Maine Maritime Academy jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back, coming away with a 79-41 North Atlantic Conference victory over Vermont State University Lyndon on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Mariners improved to 9-3 on the season and remain atop the NAC's East division with a 4-0 conference mark. The Hornets fell to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Sydney Briscoe, Sydney Loring, and Jasmine Anderson each scored 13 points to pace Maine Maritime. Anderson completed her double double with ten rebounds and Erianna Moore dished out five assists.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) led Lyndon with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) was the only other Hornet in double figures, finishing with ten points.
The Hornets suffered through a frigid shooting game, only connecting on 16 of 55 shots (29.1%) including 4 of 22 (18.2%) from behind the arc. The Mariners converted 26 of 69 attempts (37.7%) including 10 of 27 (37.0%) from distance. The Mariners held a 51-37 rebounding advantage and forced 22 Lyndon turnovers to 13 of their own.
Lyndon returns home for a pari of NAC crossover games this weekend. The Hornets will tip off against Thomas college at 3:00 pm on Saturday, then come back with a 12:00 noon tip against the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday.
