Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon senior guard Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) scored 16 points to reach the 1,000 point plateau for her career but it wasn't enough as Thomas College came away with a 69-41 North Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Terriers improved to 3-10 on the season and 3-2 in the NAC. Lyndon fell to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in conference.
Elena Alderman led Thomas with 16 points and seven rebounds. Mariah Roberts added 12 points and six rebounds and Sky Kubwalo grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists.
Smith was the only Lyndon player in double figures. Her 16-point effort brought her career total to an even 1,000 points. She is the first Hornet woman to reach that milestone since Lyndon Hall of Fame member Mikayla Hodge (Newbury, VT), who scored 1,448 points from 2014 though 2018.
Thomas converted 27 of 58 (46.6%) shots from the floor, including a blistering eight of 12 (66.7%) from behind the three-point arc. Meanwhile Lyndon struggled from the floor, only converting 13 of 55 (23.6%) shots, including only six of 22 (27.3%) from distance. The Terriers also doubled up the Hornets on the glass, 50-25, enabling them to overcome a 22-15 turnover deficit.
The Hornets will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they host the University of Maine at Farmington at 12:00 pm in another NAC crossover contest.
