Castine, ME - Vermont State University Lyndon stayed within striking distance of Maine Maritime Academy for almost the entirety of Tuesday evening's North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game. The Hornets were unable to overtake the Mariners, However, and came up on the short end of a 70-58 final score. With the win, Maine Maritime evened their record at 5-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference. Lyndon fell to 4-10 overall and 1-2 in conference.
Jack Banks and Curt Heinz scored 21 points to pace Maine Maritime. Banks grabbed ten rebounds and Heinz recorded five assists. Markus Ramirez and Josiah Dancy finished with tn points apiece.
Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) led Lyndon with 14 points and Deshawn Ford (Fort Walton Beach, FL) added 12. Brett Roy (Newport, VT) grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists while Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) also pulled down seven boards.
The difference in the game came at the free throw line, where Maine Maritime connected on 17 of 25 attempts while Lyndon only made five of nine.
Lyndon returns home for a pair of NAC crossover games next weekend. On Saturday, the Hornets will host Thomas College at 5:00 pm. Then the University of Maine at Farmington will come into Stannard Gymnasium for a 2:00 pm tip on Sunday.
