Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Paul Smith's pulls away in the second half to spoil Hornet men's soccer opener

Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon trailed Paul Smith's College, 1-0, at halftime of Monday's men's soccer game.  The Bobcats broke things open after intermission and went on to a 6-0 victory over the Hornets.  Paul Smith's improved to 3-0-1 on the season.  The game was Lyndon's season opener.

Paul Smith's jumped ahead in the third minute when Nick Grover took a pass from Riley Shone and put it past Lyndon goalie D'Amecio Singleton (Savannah, GA).  That would prove to be the only goal of the opening half, as Singleton and the Lyndon back line kept the Bobcats at bay.

As the second half started, Lyndon took the better of the play and had a great opportunity for the equalizer, but Paul Smith's goalie Cazmir Couble turned away the Hornets' Gilbert Flores (Winsted, CT).  The Bobcats then countered in the 57th minute with an unassisted goal from Nathan Wiley to make it 2-0.  In the 64th minute, Wiley converted a rebound when Grover hit the post, giving Paul Smith's a 3-0 lead.

Lyndon had another opportunity to climb back in the game in the 69th minute when Paul smith's was called for a yellow card in the box.  However Couble stopped Joaquin Torres' (Bloomfield, NJ) penalty kick to keep Lyndon off the board.

Goals from Zane Busch in the 72nd minute and Liam Curthoys in the 75th minute extended the Paul Smith's lead to 5-0.  Wiley completed the scoring and the hat trick in the 83rd minute, with assists from Keith Vivlamore and Gabe Freebern.

Paul Smith's outshot Lyndon, 41-3, for the game.  The Bobcats also generated eight corner kick to three for the Hornets.  Couble made two saves to earn the win and the clean sheet, while Singleton stopped 16 bobcat shots.

Lyndon will return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Rivier University for a 1:00 pm non-conference matchup.
