Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

VTSU Lyndon men's soccer shows improvement but comes up short against Colby-Sawyer

Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon's defense bent but didn't break often in Sunday's men's soccer game against Colby-Sawyer College.  The Chargers controlled play throughout but were only able to find the back of the net once in each half, as they came away with the 2-0 non-conference victory.  Colby-Sawyer improved to 3-4 on the season while Lyndon fell to 0-3.  Despite the loss, it was an encouraging result for a young Hornet roster that had been outscored 17-0 in its first two games.

The game was less than two minutes old when Colby-Sawyer took advantage of a giveaway right in front of the Hornet goal.  Kadin Bradley took advantage and finished right in front of the goal to give the Chargers the early lead.

That would prove to be the only goal of the first half, as Lyndon goalkeeper D'Amecio Singleton (Savannah, GA) and the Hornet defense turned away multiple Charger scoring opportunities.  Lyndon had perhaps its best chance at the equalizer in the 23rd minute when Brooks Enzensperger's (Arlington, VT) header went just wide.

the second half started out as more of the same, with Colby-Sawyer controlling the play but Lyndon proving to be stout in front of the goal.  In the 78th minute, the Chargers were finally able to create a little breathing room when Rashad Ortiz-Peck took a cross from Brayden Rapoza and deposited it into the lower corner of the net.  That would prove to be the last goal of the game.

Colby-Sawyer outshot Lyndon, 42-3, and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.  Singleton made 17 saves in goal, while his Charger counterpart, Evan Whalen, recorded a clean sheet without having to make a save.

Lyndon will return to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to in-state rival Vermont State University Randolph.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
