Lyndonville, VT - Two Vermont State University Lyndon softball players have been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday.
The student athletes honored include:
- Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) is a junior Childhood Education major with a 3.62 grade point average. Fortin started all 27 games this season, playing primarily first base. She batted .284 with 21 hits, one home run, and 13 runs batted in. She also recorded 114 putouts and five assists with a .975 fielding percentage.
- Saleena Porter (St. Jphnsbury, VT) is a graduate student working on her master's degree in Athletic Leadership. She has a 3.71 grade point average. Porter started 26 games at shortstop. She hit .229 with 19 hits, one home run, and 12 runs batted in. She recorded 30 putouts and 65 assists with a .905 fielding percentage.
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Softball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly College Sports Information Directors of America - CoSIDA), recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The top Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 18th.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
