VTSU Lyndon celebrates 2023-2024 athletic accomplishments

Lyndonville, VT - Vermont State University Lyndon held their annual Athletic Awards Banquet on Monday evening.  The VTSU Lyndon Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the NVU-Lyndon Department of Athletics co-sponsored the event.

VTSU Lyndon SAAC Student Government Association Representative Alberto Bustamante (Northridge, CA) welcomed student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and guests.  He also served as master of ceremonies for the event.

VTSU Lyndon Director of Athletics Chris Gilmore, SAAC Advisor Megan Barnes, and Hornet head coaches also spoke and presented awards.

Several major department awards were presented:

Dudley Bell Most Outstanding Male and Female Athletes:  freshman baseball player Evan Duncan (Little Elm, TX) and junior women's basketball player Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH)

Champions of Character Award:  senior men's basketball player Tyrese Harris (Fort Benning, GA) and sophomore softball player Lindsey Gannon (Beverly, MA)

Green and Gold Awards (female and male athletes with the highest GPA):  senior women's basketball and softball player Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT), sophomore men's soccer player Quinn Bressler (Norton, MA), and sophomore men's cross country runner Nathan Moore (Norwich, CT)

SAAC Coach of the Year:  women's basketball coach Brennen Morton

SAAC Fan of the Year:  Zahi Rashid

Strength and conditioning coach Ben Warstler presented the Strength & Conditioning Top Performers of the Year Awards.  They included:

Team of the Year - Baseball

Female Performer of the Year - Lindsey Gannon

Male Performer of the Year - Matt Gonyeau

Director of athletics Chris Gilmore also presented several Skip Pound Service to Athletics Awards to the following individuals:  Quinn Bressler, Tyrese Harris, Maachah Krull, Kiara Mack, Chloe McIntire, Mark Osorio, Zahi Rashid

Finally, several superlative awards were voted on by the student athletes:

Most Swagger:  Cameron Curler

Most Sideline Energy:  Zahi Rashid

Most Likely to Make Teammates Laugh:  Chuck Gratton

Most Likely to Miss the Bus:  Adam English

Best Play or Performance in a Single Contest:  Sage Smith, 33 points including game winning buzzer beater at UMPI
