Hornet baseball unable to hold off Ana Maria

Paxton, MA - Vermont State University Lyndon jumped out to a two-run lead but Anna Maria College rallied for a 5-2 victory in Tuesday's non-conference baseball game.  The Amcats improved to 10-11 with the win, while the Hornets fell to 1-12.

TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) got the Hornets off on the right foot when he singled leading off the game.  He advanced to second, then third, on a pair of ground outs, then came in to score when Matt Gonyeau (St. Albans, VT) reached on an error.

Lyndon made it 2-0 in the top of the third inning when Kearson Grisham (Choctaw, MS) was hit by a pitch, stole second, and scored on Ryan Alt's (Poultney, VT) double.

Alt, Lyndon's started, cruised through the first four innings, allowing only a pair of singles.  In the home fifth, Anna Maria got on the scoreboard on Jeremy Rosenburg's one-out solo home run,

Anna Maria took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Tommy Sasso led off with a base hit and moved to second on a passed ball.  Sasso came home with the tying run on Kosta Drosidis' RBI base hit.  Jerrod Marifiote then doubled in Drosidis, giving the Amcats the lead.  Brady Alyward then delivered a two-run home run, extending the Anna Maria lead to 5-2.

That would prove to be all that the Amcats needed.  Hunter Levesque pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get credited for the win.  Tyler Godin then came in to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and close out the game.  Alt took the loss, going five innings plus and allowing two earned runs and striking out a pair.  Dale Ostermann (Harrington, DE) gave up one run in three innings of relief.

Lyndon is scheduled to open up North Atlantic Conference play with a four-game series at Thomas College this weekend.  First pitch is currently scheduled for noon on Saturday.  Check vtsuhornets.com for any updates that may be necessitated by the uncoming winter storm expected to hit the Northeast.
