Waterville, ME - The Vermont State University Lyndon baseball team jumped out to a 12-5 lead through four and a half innings of their North Atlantic Conference opener against Thomas College on Sunday evening. The Hornets were unable to hold off the Terriers, however, as Thomas plated seven runs in each of the next two innings and went on to a 22-15 victory over Lyndon. Thomas improved to 5-10 on the season, while Lyndon fell to 1-13. The game, played at Colby College, was the NAC opener for both teams.
Patrick Temby led a 13-hit Thomas attack with three hits and four runs batted in. Matt Seympur and Jason Bartlett also had three hits and Elijah Morton had two hits, three RBIs, and a pair of runs scored.
Matt Gonyeau (St. Albans, VT) had a big night for Lyndon with a triple and a double, three runs batted in, and three runs scored. Evan Duncan (Little Elm, TX) also had a huge game with four hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT) had three hits, including a double, and Matt Doherty (Gardner, MA), Tyler Murro (Littleton, NH), and Dalton Berry (Tavares, FL) added two hits apiece. The Hornets produced a total of 17 hits on the night.
Ankit Shah picked up the win after allowing three runs in 4.2 innings of relief for the Terriers. Mike Redmond (Plantation, FL) took the loss for the Hornets.
The same two teams will play a NAC doubleheader at Colby on Monday. The first pitch is scheduled for 10:15 am.
