Lyndonville, VT - Husson University swept a North Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles captured a 6-1 victory in the opener, then rallied for a 7-5 win in the nightcap to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-1 in the NAC. Lyndon fell to 2-18 on the season and 1-4 in conference.
Game 1 - Husson 6, VTSU Lyndon 1
The Eagles came away with the win despite being outhit, 7-5. Cam Rendell had a big game at the plate for Husson with two hits including a home run and four runs batted in. Matt Holmes also homered for the Eagles. Matt Wallingford struck out seven against only two walks in six innings of work to earn the win.
Matt Doherty (Gardenr, MA) had a single and a double and drove in Lyndon's only run. TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) and Kearson Grisham (Choctaw, MS) also had two hits. Carlos Rodriguez (La Mirada, CA) went 5.2 innings and took the loss. He allowed three earned runs and three hits, striking out five and walking five.
Game 2 - Husson 7, VTSU Lyndon 5
Lyndon jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings but couldn't hold off Husson. The Eagle scored three times in the fourth and once in the fifth, then took the lead with a pair ion the sixth, Jackson Curtis had double and a pair of singles to pace Husson. Akira Warren had a single and a double and scored twice. Alex Smith came on in the second inning and picked up the win after pitching eight scoreless innings and allowing only three hits while striking out seven.
TJ Santaw (Newport, VT) and Doherty had two hits each for the Hornets. Doherty and Alberto Bustamante (Northridge, CA) each drove in two runs. Nathan Bigelow (East Hampton, CT) took the loss in relief.
The Hornets will host Norwich University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
