Dudley, MA - Nichols College pitching kept the Vermont State University Lyndon bats in check through both ends of Tuesday's baseball doubleheader, as the Bison came away with a pair of shutout victories. Nichols improved to 8-3 on the season, while Lyndon remained winless in ten contests.
Game 1 - Nichols 13, VTSU Lyndon 0
Bison starter Aidan Whittan allowed only a first inning single to Kearson Grisham (Choctaw, MS) in five shutout innings. Leo Colena and Mitch Brown each pitched an inning of scoreless relief, with Evan Duncan's (Little Elm, TX) seventh inning single off of Brown the only other Lyndon hit.
Johnny Knox was the hitting star for Nichols with a single and a double, two runs batted in, and two runs scored. Karl Miller had three base hits and scored twice. Andrew Croteau had a single and a double with one run batted in and two runs scored.
Lyndon starter Adam English (Mesa, AZ) lasted three innings and absorbed the loss.
Game 2 - Nichols 9, VTSU Lyndon 0
Nichols starter John Steed scattered five hits over 6.1 innings of work. He struck out six against one walk before Chris Critchley came on to get the final two outs.
Croteau was three for four and scored once as the Bison pounded out 13 hits. Jom Marasco added a single, a double, three runs batted in and a run scored. Knox, Brennan Hyde, and Will Kleinhenz added two hits each.
Alberto Bustamante (Northridge, CA) had a pair of hits for Lyndon. Tyler Murro (Littleton, NH), Matt Gonyeau (St. Albans, VT), and Dale Ostermann (Harrington, DE) had the other Hornet hits. Ryan Alt (Poultney, VT) started on the mound and took the loss.
Lyndon's next game will be a non-conference game at Rivier University on Wednesday, March 27th.
