Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hornet women overwhelm Lesley for the second day in a row

Medford, MA - One day after running away with an 84-51 victory over Lesley University, the Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team again had their way with the Lynx and came away with a North Atlantic Conference victory by a nearly identical score of 82-51.  The Hornets won their third straight game to improve to 8-13 on the season and 3-9 in NAC play.  Lesley remained winless at 0-21 overall and 0-12 in the conference.

For the second day in a row, Lyndon outscored Lesley in every quarter.  The Hornets never trailed, jumping in front, 11-2, and holding off the Lynx from there.  Lesley did get to within three points in the early going of the second quarter, but a Riann Fortin (Newport, VT) basket followed by a Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) three-pointer put the Hornets back in control and the Hornets rolled to a 21-point halftime advantage.

Lyndon pushed the lead out to as many as 37 points in the second half before settling for the 31-point win.

Porter finished with a very efficient near double double of 19 points and nine rebounds on 9/11 shooting.  Fortin was 7/8 from the floor and tallied 16 points.  Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) and Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) also hit double figures with 14 and 13 points respectively.  Smith also dished out nine assists.

Jordan Blair paced Lesley with 12 points.  Savannah Gravitt and Alexandra Kerley added 11 points apiece.

The Hornets return home on Tuesday evening when they host Paul Smith's College in a 6:00 pm non-conference contest.  Prior to tip-off, the Hornets will honor their senior women's basketball players.
