Medford, MA - Vermont State University Lyndon outscored Lesley University in every quarter en route to an 84-51 North Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory on Friday evening. With the win, Lyndon improved to 7-13 overall and 2-9 in NAC play. Lesley remained winless in 20 games, including 11 conference tilts.
Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) got the Hornets on the board with a three-pointer just 14 seconds into the game. A Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) layup off of a turnover and two more Whitcomb threes pushed the Lyndon lead to 11-2just over two minutes into the contest. Lesley battled back and cut the Lyndon lead to two following a Jordan Blair three-pointer, but the Hornets eased the lead back to five at the quarter break.
Neither team could score in the first four minutes of the second quarter. Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) broke the ice with a second chance basket, and a Smith three-poiter pushed the Lyndon lead to nine at intermission.
A 9-0 Lyndon run midway through the third quarter broke the game open, and the Hornets continued to pull away throughout the second half.
Whitcomb led Lyndon with 20 points, including six three-point goals. Smith added 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Mack also reached double figures with 12 points. Saleena Porter (St. Johnsbury, VT) pulled down a game high 12 rebounds and Kerigan Disorda (Benson, VT) dished out eight assists.
Blair and Alexandra Kerley scored 17 points apiece to pace Lesley. Savannah Gravitt chipped in with 13 points. Kerley completed her double double with ten rebounds and Blair dished out four assists.
The Hornets and Lynx will run it back on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off at Medford High School is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
