Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon women's basketball team fell to the Norwich University Cadets in a non-conference matchup by the score off 71-50 on Tuesday evening. The Cadets improved their record to 6-3, while the Hornets dropped to 3-6.
The Cadets came out hot to start the game while playing great defense, forcing multiple turnovers. The bench for Norwich was also productive, scoring sixteen points for the game. The Hornets had a rough start to the game, trailing 21-3 after one quarter. Lyndon then proceeded to have a great second quarter, but were still down big going into halftime. Lyndon came out on fire in the second half and managed to cut the Norwich lead to single digits early in the fourth quarter. Norwich was able to hold off Lyndon, however, and pulled away down the stretch.
Senior guard Sage Smith (Colbrook, NH) was the leading scorer for the Hornets with 17 points, followed by junior guard Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) with 13 points.
The Norwich Cadets had two players with near double-doubles. Kylie O'Brien finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, and Maren McGinn added 15 points and nine rebounds. Haley Brewster also reached double figures with 18 points.
The Hornets are off for the holidays and the semester break. Their first game back will be on January 6th, when they travel to Husson University to take on the Eagles in a 4:00 pm tip-off.
