Lyndonville, VT - Colby-Sawyer College scored the first ten points of Saturday's non-conference women's basketball game with Vermotn State University Lyndon, then held off the Hornets the rest of the way to escape with a 69-65 victory in the season opener for both teams.
Courtney Brewster had a huge game to lead the Chargers. She was the only Colby-Sawyer player in double figures, posting a 30 point, 17 rebound double double. Elyza Mitchell added nine points and Marissa Holt dished out a team high four assists.
Sage Smith (Colebrook, NH) topped four double figure scorers for Lyndon. She finished with a near double double of 21 poits and nine rebounds. Kadienne Whitcomb (West Burke, VT) added 15 points and Niyjah Wright (Washington, DC) and Kiara Mack (Winooski, VT) chipped in with 12 points apiece. Ella Huntington (Taylorsville, UT) dished out a game high five assists.
Lyndon will return to action next weekend when they host the annual Vermont State University Tip-Off Classic. The Hornets will host Vermont State University Randolph in the tournament opener on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. Vermont State University Johnson and New England College will squre off in the other semi immediately following. The championship game is scheduled for next Sunday, November 17th, at 2:00 pm. It will be preceded by a 12:00 noon consolation game.
