Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's basketball team ran out to their highest scoring output of the season, outlasting the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 104-97, in the consolation game of the SUNY Morrisville Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Lyndon evens its record at 2-2 on the season. SUNY ESF falls to 1-6.
After a back and forth opening several minutes, Lyndon put on a spurt late in the first half. The Hornets' Tyler Cooper (Sterling, NY) connected on a three-point goal just before halftime to send Lyndon to the locker room with a 53-38 lead.
Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) scored on a backdoor layup on Lyndon's first possession of the second half to give the Hornets their biggest lead, but ESF began to ship away. The Mighty Oaks got within three points, but a pair of big three-pointers late from Wesley McIntyre (Troy, NY) kept ESF at bay and allowed the Hornets to come away with the win.
