Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hornets come from behind to defeat Knights for first win

Lyndonville, VT - The Vermotn State University Lyndon men's soccer team rallied for a 3-1 victory over Vermont State University Randolph on Tuesday afternoon.  With the win, the Hornets improved to 1-8-1 on the season.  Randolph fell to 0-7-1.

Randolph got on the scoreboard first in the 15th minute when Kaleb Swett collected a loose ball after a scramble and fired it past Lyndon goalkeeper D'Amecio Singleton.  The Hornets would get the better of the play for the rest of the opening half, outshooting the Knights, 13-4.  However, they were unable to come up with the equalizer, as Randolph took the 1-0 lead into intermission.

Lyndon was able to tie things up in the 55th minute when Glibert Flores (Winsted, CT) took a long ball from Matthew McGeehan (Milford, CT) and chipped it over Knight keeper Shane Mapes.

The Hornets moved in front in the 65th minute.  Flores was pulled down in the box and David Gratton (Newport, VT) fired the ensuing penalty kick past Mapes and into the lower left corner of the net to make it 2-1, Lyndon.

The Hornets opened up some breathing room less than a minute later when Flores took a beautiful long ball from Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA), ran by his defender, and put a shot into the net.  That would prove to be the final goal of the game, as Lyndon held off Randolph the rest of the way to collect their first win.

Singleton picked up the win in goal without having to make a save, while Mapes took the loss and made nine stops.  Lyndon outshot Randolph, 27-10, and earned five corner kicks to three for the Knights.

Lyndon gets back into North Atlantic Conference play this weekend when they travel to NAC West leader State University of New York at Delhi for a 3:30 pm kickoff on Saturday.
