Lyndonville, VT - The Vermont State Unicrsity Lyndon men's soccer team hosted Vermont State University Johnson on Tuesday afternoon in their final North Atlantic Conference match of the season. Unfortunately for the home team, the visiting Badgers controlled play much of the day and came away with a 3-0 victory. With the win the Badgers improved to 3-8-2 on the season and 2-2-2 in NAC play. The Hornets fell to 1-11-1 overall and finish conference play winless in six starts.
The Badgers got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute when Logan Ingalls took a pass from Jonathan Cayole and fired a shot past Lyndon goalkeeper D'Amecio Singleton (Savannah, GA). That would be the only goal of the first half, as the Badgers took the one-goal lead into intermission.
After a Lyndon foul just outside the box in the 61st minute, Ingalls scored his second goal of the game on the ensuing free kick, when he fired a shot just under the crossbar and into the upper left corner of the net. Johnson's Raymond Baka added an insurance goal in the 69th minute when he took a pass from Owen Marchessault and chipped a shot over Singleton and into the net.
Johnson outshot Lyndon, 25-5, and earned eight corners to two for the Hornets. Badger goalkeeper Carlos Dominguez made four saves on the way to the clean sheet. Singleton made five saves in the Lyndon net.
Prior to Tuesday's game, VTSU Lyndon honored its senior men's soccer players. James Salvas (Morrisville, VT), Jacob Baesemann (Waterford, VT), Guillermo Joaquin Ortiz Garcia (Enosburg Falls, VT), Matthew McGeehan (Milford, CT), and Gilbert Flores (Winsted, CT) were joined on the field by family members and friends. They were thanked for their contributions to Lyndon soccer and presented with tokens of appreciation for their efforts.
Lyndon will close out the season on Saturday afternoon when they host Plymouth State University in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff on Varsity Field is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
