Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

SUNY Cobleskill outlasts Hornet men's soccer

Cobleskill, NY - The Vermont State University Lyndon men's soccer team put up a solid defensive effort for much of today's North Atlantic Conference men's soccer game at the State University of New York at Cobleskill.  However the Hornets weren't able to get much going on the offensive end of the pitch, as the host Fighting Tigers came away with a 3-0 victory.  Cobleskill improved to 4-9-2 on the season and 2-1-1 in NAC play, while Lyndon fell to 1-10-1 overall and 0-5 in conference.

Neither team was able to break through until the 27th minute, when Cobleskill's Connor Fancher took a through ball from Cody Petschko and poked a shot past Hornet goalkeeper D'Amecio Singleton (Savannah, GA).  That would be the only score of the opening half, as the hosts took their one-goal advantage into intermission.

Cobleskill opened up some breathing room early in the second half.  Under four minutes in Fancher took a pass from Samuel Spraker and chipped it over Singleton and into the goal.  Connor Flannigan's insurance goal in the 52nd minute accounted for the final score.

Adam Champlin started in goal for the Tigers, stopping his only opportunity before giving way to Joe Wille in the 60th minute.  Singleton went the distance in goal for Lyndon and made eight saves.

Cobleskill got the better of the play most of the afternoon, outshooting Lyndon, 28-4, over the game.  Carson Hughes (Oldtown, ID) had Lyndon's only shot on goal.  David Gratton (Newport, VT), Jason Nofsker (Virginia Beach, VA), and Cameran Lavertu (The Tigers also earned nine corner kicks to one for the Hornets.

Lyndon returns home next week for the final two games of the season.  The Hornets will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday when they host Vermont State University Lyndon in a 2:30 pm start.  The season finale will be a non-conference matchup with Plymouth State University next Saturday afternoon.
