Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Hornet men can't slow down Clarkson

Potsdam, NY - A combination of red hot shooting from host Clarkson University and an ice cold first half from Vermont State University Lyndon added up to a 104-56 non-conference men's basketball victory for the Golden Knights on Tuesday afternoon.  Clarkson improved to 9-3 with the win while Lyndon remained winless in 13 outings.

Clarkson scored on their first four possessions to take a 10-0 lead just over two minutes into the contest,  Peyton Olsen's (Middleburgh, NY) basket and free throw broke the ice for Lyndon, but Clarkson used hot shooting to break the game open in the opening stanza.  The Knights connected on eight of 18 three-pointers in the opening half while limiting the Hornets to only six of 29, including only two of 15 from distance.  The net result was a 50-22 Clarkson lead at intermission.

While the Hornets fared marginally better at the offensive end in the second half, it was more of the same for the Knights.  Clarkson connected on 19 of 33 shots, 11 of 22 from behind the arc, in the second stanza.  Meanwhile Lyndon improved to 13 of 29 from the floor and five of ten from long range.

Ryan Miles-Ferguson led Clarkson with a game high 22 points.  Matthew Parent added 15 points and Braeden Burns chipped in with 12.  Jack Dalgety and Matt Toscano also reached double figures with ten points each.  Finn Cork pulled down nine rebounds while Miles-Ferguson, Steve DeRegis, and Ben Phillips dished out four assists apiece.

Gregory Gonyea Jr. (Dolgeville, NY) was Lyndon's only double figure scorer with 16 points on five of seven shooting, including two of two from behind the arc and four of four from the foul line.  Isaac McCann (Phoenix, AZ) led Lyndon with five rebounds while Matt Doyle (Whitesboro, NY) and Tyrese Harris (Fort Benning, GA) each had a pair of assists.

Lyndon will be on the road again this weekend, this time for a pair of North Atlantic Conference crossover games.  On Friday the Hornets will take on SUNY Polytechnic Institute at 4:00 pm.  The following day they will play at SUNY Cobleskill at 1:00 pm.
